Celebrating the Mission of American Allied Veterans and Supporters

We’re excited to highlight the remarkable work of the American Allied Veterans and Supporters (AAVS), an organization committed to recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of veterans and those who assisted U.S. forces abroad. Through storytelling, community events, and outreach programs, AAVS works to ensure these individuals and their journeys are honored, remembered, and celebrated.

Mission Statement

“To recognize veterans and the personnel who helped US troops abroad as they continue their lives in the United States.”

The Story Behind AAVS

The founding of AAVS is rooted in the personal journey of Adnan Secic, who was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and lived through the turmoil of the early 1990s. As a veteran of the Bosnian War and later a professional with the United Nations in Sarajevo, Adnan found himself working closely with U.S. forces. In the heart of the conflict, amid the siege and suffering, bonds were formed; ones built not on shared nationality but on shared mission and mutual respect.

Adnan later moved to the United States, where he became a citizen in 1999 and built a successful life as an engineer, consultant, educator, and family man. With over three decades of experience across fields including aerospace, consumer products, and education, he never lost sight of those moments in Sarajevo when partnerships across uniforms saved lives and shaped futures.

Out of his lived experience came AAVS – a bridge between those who served and supported U.S. missions abroad and the American communities they now call home.

Through AAVS, Adnan invites others to tell their story. Every member has a journey that deserves recognition, from translators in Afghanistan and mechanics in Iraq to allied NATO soldiers who now live in the United States. This is where their voices can be heard and honored.

Making an Impact

American Allied Veterans and Supporters is dedicated to honoring and supporting veterans and allies who stood beside the United States during missions around the world. The organization’s growing membership includes U.S. veterans and individuals from allied nations who worked alongside American forces and now call the United States home.

AAVS creates opportunities to educate the public, strengthen military and civilian relationships, and celebrate the stories of those who served. Through speaking engagements, community events, and partnership programs, they foster understanding and connection.

A recent example was the August 9th event at the Miami Valley Military History Museum, where attendees experienced powerful first-hand accounts of military service, international cooperation, and the importance of recognizing those who supported U.S. missions abroad.

Looking ahead, AAVS plans to expand its reach through:

  • More public speaking events
  • Veteran networking initiatives
  • Educational collaborations with historical institutions nationwide

Voices of Support

“We enjoyed another presentation by Mr. Adnan Secic, who discussed his compulsory military service in the Yugoslav People’s Army, and later working for the United Nations supporting the UN Protection Force (UNPROFOR). He also discussed the organization he’s founded (and which MVMHM supports) to bring together people who supported the U.S. in various operations around the world and are now living in the United States. Thanks again, Adnan!”

– Mark Conrad, Master Sergeant USAF (Ret.), Curator/President, Miami Valley Military History Museum

“As a veteran, educator, and proud supporter of our American troops, I admire the mission and dedication of American Allied Veterans and Supporters organization. Yesterday, August 14, we held our first strategic meeting – a milestone that marks the beginning of a bold and purposeful direction for the organization. I was honored to sit alongside the Founder, my dear friend Adnan Secic as we discussed concrete ways to expand our impact, connect with more veterans, and ensure that those who stood with the United States in times of need are never forgotten. AAVS is not just an organization, it’s a living testament to the bonds forged in service and the enduring duty we share to stand by our brothers and sisters in arms.”

– Catalin Macarie, Associate Professor of Business Management, University of Cincinnati / President, Foreign Policy Leadership Council of Ohio / Member & Officer, American Allied Veterans and Supporters

Generosity Through Scholarships

Statistics show that more than 60% of college students rely on scholarships, and about 15% of those receive private scholarships. Someone calculated that 1.8 million private scholarships are awarded annually in the U.S. Establishing a scholarship is a great way to extend generosity and pay it forward.
