On May 30, Greene Giving board member Robert “Doc” Dillaplain organized and completed a one-mile fundraising walk in support of the recently created Xenia High School JROTC Support Fund.
Doc was joined by more than 20 community members of all ages from start to finish, showing their support for both the cause and one another. Many who could not attend provided donations to support Doc’s efforts. Following the walk, participants gathered at Nick’s Restaurant in Xenia to enjoy lunch, celebrate the accomplishment, and spend time connecting through meaningful conversation.
Thanks to the generosity and participation of everyone involved, Doc helped raise approximately $1,000 to support the JROTC program and help strengthen its high school program in the years ahead. Doc also supports a deserving JROTC graduating cadet through a college scholarship as well. With both, he shows his gratitude for the role that the JROTC program played in his military career through the U.S. Army, and plays in high schoolers today.
This event was especially meaningful because it began with one person recognizing a need within our community and taking action to make a difference. Doc saw an opportunity to bring more awareness to a local fund and created an event that brought people together around a shared purpose. In light of his prosthetic leg, Doc thought it would motivate others not only to join him, but use whatever circumstance someone finds themselves in and use it for good. At Greene Giving, stories like this can remind others that community impact often starts with a single idea and a willingness to act. If you are interested in supporting a fund or creating an opportunity to give back, we encourage you to reach out and learn how Greene Giving can help.
