Honoring Carol Pfeifer: Supporting the Next Generation of Educators

The Carol Pfeifer Memorial Scholarship was established in 2023 to honor the life and legacy of Carol Pfeifer and her 24-year dedication to early childhood education at Mini University. After losing Carol unexpectedly in August 2022, her family- her husband, Jerry, and children Elissa and Andy- wanted to create a lasting tribute to her passion for teaching and the countless children, families, and educators she influenced throughout her career. They came to Greene Giving and asked our help to bring it to reality.

In 2026, the Carol Pfeifer Memorial Scholarship awarded six $1,500 scholarships to Mini University staff who are pursuing an Early Childhood Education degree, while working and caring for family.

  • Adonijah “Addie” Hawkins, from the Sinclair Community College Center, has a natural ability to connect with children and encourage their creativity through fun and engaging play.
  • Victoria “Tori” Miller, from the Miami University Center, brings positive energy, warmth, and enthusiasm to the classroom. Her outgoing personality allows her to quickly build relationships with students and earn their trust. This year marks Tori’s second Carol Pfeifer Memorial Scholarship.
  • Nadia Miller, also from the Miami University Center, is known for her gentle and kind approach. She creates warm, trusting relationships with her students and uses those connections to support their personal growth.
  • Zharia Griggs, from the Wright State University Center, is entering her senior year and has gained experience working with children of all ages, most recently serving as a Summer Camp Instructor. Her willingness to step in wherever support is needed has made her a valuable member of the team while allowing her to continue strengthening her teaching skills.
  • Cammi Johnson, a junior at Wright State University, has a special ability to recognize children who may be quieter or less likely to participate. By creating a safe and comfortable classroom environment, she helps those children find their voices, build confidence, and become active participants in learning.
  • Cassidy Miller, also from the Wright State University Center, is in her third year with Mini University and works full-time as an Assistant Teacher while pursuing her degree in Elementary Education. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom, including a passion for supporting children’s social-emotional development and presentations at two professional conferences. She also served as an Acting Teacher in Pre-K during the past year, where she demonstrated her skills and dedication as an educator.

These six recipients represent the spirit of the scholarship and the qualities Carol Pfeifer demonstrated throughout her own career: compassion, dedication, leadership, and a genuine commitment to helping children learn and grow.

Greene Giving is pleased to support the Pfeifer family in administering their family’s scholarship.  Through the Carol Pfeifer Memorial Scholarship, Carol’s passion for education continues to make a difference by helping the next generation of teachers reach their goals.

A Wish Written 40 Years Ago Comes Full Circle

He envisioned a partnership with the Greene County Career Center that would provide students with hands-on experience and opportunities to prepare for careers as automotive and motorcycle mechanics.

A Community Comes Together to Honor Richard W. Little

For nearly four decades, Richard W. “Mr. Little” Little dedicated his life to the students and families of Beavercreek as a science teacher at Shaw Elementary. Richard spent 39 years in the classroom, where he became much more than a teacher to the generations of students who passed through his door. His influence reached far beyond science lessons.
