Herman Menapace Difference Maker Award

The Herman Menapace Difference Maker Award honors the legacy of a man who believed that everyone has the ability, and the responsibility, to make a difference.

As a driving force behind what is now the Greene County Community Foundation, Herman Menapace lived out that belief every day. He devoted his time and energy to numerous organizations, including the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America (Tecumseh Council), First Frontier (Blue Jacket Outdoor Drama), and many others throughout the community.

Herman believed that making a difference starts with simply recognizing a need and stepping in to help. His outlook reflected the words of educator Horace Mann: “Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.” While that may sound like a lofty ideal, Herman knew it often comes down to simple, everyday acts such as helping a neighbor, encouraging someone in need, or giving back to a cause you believe in.

The Difference Maker Award celebrates individuals in Greene County who live out those values and consistently work to lift others up.
