Organization Spotlight: Feed The ‘Ville

The Greene County Community Foundation (d/b/a Greene Giving) exists to serve Greene County and the nonprofit organizations and foundations that continually give back to our community. Today, we would like to introduce you to one of those organizations, Feed the ‘Ville. We sat down with Director, Linda Walker, to learn more about the organization and how you can get involved.

When was your organization founded?

Feed the ‘Ville started organizing in the fall of 2018 and started distributing food to the children in the spring of 2019. Each year they have served between 35-50 students at Cedar Cliff Local Schools.

Why was your organization founded?

One in four school age children (K-9) does not have enough to eat over the weekend. Every day there are about 60 students in Cedar Cliff Elementary who receive reduced cost or free lunch during the week. Some of these students will have very little or nothing to eat on weekends.

The purpose of Feed the ‘Ville is to provide healthy, non-perishable food for children to eat on the weekend. Students who are enrolled in this program will receive a bag of food each Friday (at school) to take home.

How can someone get involved with your organization?

You can help by:

  • Sponsoring a child for $35 a month for a year
  • Making a monthly donation of any amount
  • Making a one-time donation
  • Volunteering to pack bags (contact us at feedtheville@gmail.com)

Gifts will be processed through Greene County Community Foundation (Greene Giving). Please be sure to include Feed the ‘Ville as the specific designated fund.

Mail: Make checks payable to Greene Giving. In addition, the memo line on the check must read Feed the ‘Ville.
